Embracing Growth, Freedom, and New Horizons
They say the dragonfly represents wisdom, adaptability, and the ability to move through life with grace. It also symbolizes freedom, evolution, and change. These qualities have shaped both my personal and professional journey.
As I reflect today, I realize how closely my story aligns with this inspiring symbol.
I am María del Mar, proudly Costa Rican, with family roots that shaped my childhood between San José and the countryside. Life has also given me a loving husband and four wonderful children: Sofía, Fisher, Alana, and Malin. Together, they form a team that inspires me every day.
Since I was young, I felt a deep connection to water and the sea. In 2003, my passion for surfing led me to create Del Mar Surf Camp. What started as a small surf school for women soon grew into a vibrant project with three locations: Jacó, Nosara, and Santa Teresa.
Those were wonderful years, full of dedication and joy. Most importantly, they were years of connecting people. Bringing people together has always been my greatest gift.
After eleven years of pause—during which I led a large team and managed a Yoga Resort in Nosara—the dragonfly reminded me it was time to embrace a new chapter. At 46, I decided to reinvent myself and give new life to my project, now with more maturity, a spiritual perspective, and alignment with this fresh phase of my journey.
That is how Del Mar Adventures was born. It was inspired by the dragonfly and its symbolism: freedom, growth, nature, and spirituality. These values now guide every detail of this new venture and are at the heart of my brand.
Today, I feel like a dragonfly dancing through the air—light, mindful, and grateful. With an open heart, I am ready to embark on this long-awaited journey, honoring every experience that has brought me here.
