Costa Rica Adventures
Why Mountain Trilogy?
The alternative Costa Rica nature vacation you didn’t know you wanted. Instead of jungles and beaches, mountains and
volcanoes; instead of surf breaks and tropical fruit, coffee plantations and farm-to-table dinners. Mountain Trilogy is a
trip to Costa Rica’s agricultural roots through the landscapes that shaped it, the ingredients it produces and the
communities that continue to preserve that legacy today.
The journey begins with a hike through Escazú’s forested farm trails and harvesting the vegetables that will become our
lunch. From there we’ll continue to Turrialba’s volcanoes, sugar cane fields, cycling and horseback riding experiences
through one of Costa Rica’s most generous agricultural regions. Finally, we’ll slow down in San Gerardo de Dota’s
mountain paradise with an unhurried schedule and cozy evenings.
This unexpected Costa Rica wildlife vacation is about discovering a lesser known but equally rich side of the country,
where the connection to the earth is honored by ancestral agricultural traditions that continue to pass on through
generations that understand the value of knowing where our food comes from, and enjoying the meals those traditions
continue to inspire.
Stay at unique eco-conscious luxury retreats, enjoy unforgettable farm-to-table meals, explore Costa Rica’s lesser-known
landscapes, and learn about the traditions that continue to shape the country today.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s included in the Mountain Trilogy?
7 nights of lodging across three properties (Casa 41, Hacienda La Esperanza at Aquiares Estate, and Trogón Lodge), transfers between each region, and the signature activities at each stop — the Finca La Lucía farm day, the Turrialba Volcano hike, e-biking and horseback riding through Turrialba’s fields and coffee plantations, and guided hiking and quetzal searches in San Gerardo de Dota. Meals are farm-to-table throughout the Turrialba leg and included at each lodge; add-ons like Río Pejibaye rafting are available at an additional cost.
Is this trip good for beginners, or do I need outdoor experience?
No prior outdoor experience is required. Guides are with you throughout, and activities like the e-bike ride and horseback tour are approachable for most fitness levels. The optional Río Pejibaye rafting includes Class II–IV rapids, so that add-on is best suited to guests comfortable with a bit more adventure. Most hikes are accessible to anyone in reasonably good shape, though the Turrialba Volcano hike and the Pico Blanco trails at Finca La Lucía involve sustained uphill sections. If you have specific concerns about fitness level, let us know and we can help tailor the pace.
What's the best time of year to do this trip?
Costa Rica’s dry season (roughly December through April) offers the most reliable hiking and volcano-viewing conditions, though the cloud forest in San Gerardo de Dota is beautiful and lush year-round. Access to the Turrialba Volcano summit can vary with volcanic activity — we’ll always confirm current conditions ahead of your trip.
What's not included?
International flights, travel insurance, and personal expenses are generally not included unless specifically stated in your itinerary. Since every experience is customized, we’ll clearly outline exactly what’s included before you confirm your booking.
What are the payment and cancellation terms?
90+ days before departure — deposit only (30%) is retained.
60–89 days before departure — 50% of trip cost is retained.
30–59 days before departure — 75% of trip cost is retained.
Under 30 days — 100% of trip cost is retained.
Because each itinerary is built around independent local partners, a supplier’s own cancellation terms may exceed the schedule above; where that’s the case, the supplier’s terms apply.
