Wellness Travel Reimagined: Why we chose Costa Rica, Peru & Chile
Gratitude-Filled Journeys: Reflections of wellness travel from María del Mar
Lately, I’ve been feeling deeply overwhelmed with gratitude. The past two months have been an extraordinary journey full of wellness travel, family time, and precious moments that nourished my heart and spirit.
Exploring Peru: A Journey to the Sacred Valley
Firstly, while Peru is home to one of the seven wonders of the world, public perception doesn’t do it justice. The idea to host a retreat here first came to be when it happened to come up in conversation with a woman, Milagros, who designed clothing for the hotel I used to work at. She insisted on the magic of Peru and the healing that the culture and area brings to people. It felt less like a decision, and more like a realization; this simply had to be on our list.
I traveled to Peru with Erika and Milagros to scout locations for our Sacred Gathering in October 2026 in the Sacred Valley. To say it was simply revitalizing and incredible would be doing a grave disservice to our trip and experience. It revealed so much to me—clear insights, inspiration, and moments that fed my spirit.
It wasn’t the surf and yoga retreat I was used to, but it magically surprised me. During that week, not only did we meet extraordinary people who enlightened us about Andean culture, showing how connection to their roots influences their daily lives, but we also highlighted the importance of education surrounding where we went, the food we ate, and the rituals we practiced. We also gave thanks, visited sacred sites, immersed ourselves in wild nature, and enjoyed local, healthy meals. The act of slowing down, being intentional about our actions, and enjoying the incredible natural beauty and historical spectacle that is Peru was something I will never forget. We breathed pure mountain air, prayed, laughed, cried, and lived each moment fully. In short, the experience was pure magic. I cannot wait to share it with all of you.
Discovering Chile: Recharging in the Enchanting Elqui Valley
After Peru, I flew to Santiago, Chile, to visit my dear friend Paula and explore the stunning Valle del Elqui. Oh my goodness, I only need to close my eyes to feel the cool, coastal breeze on my skin and return to that powerful place.
Elqui Valley felt peaceful, uplifting, and spiritually rich. It became the perfect ending to my two-month sabbatical. I joined Paula’s Origen Yoga Retreat for the weekend, which is designed to aid in aligning your body, mind and spirit through guided movement and mediation. and it was truly spectacular. I met beautiful people, learned their stories and deepened my understanding around the environmental drivers of joy and peace. I enjoyed incredible food, and took long walks through majestic mountains, allowing myself time to process past experiences, replaying my travels, conversations, lessons learned, and reflecting on how each one contributed to my growth, and how they could contribute to yours.
I have also never felt closer to the stars in my life, literally and metaphorically. The valley is geographically ideal and famous for stargazing thanks to its dry climate, high elevation, and protected skies with very little light pollution. As a result, it offers over 300 clear nights each year, it is a place of dreams. Without a doubt, this destination is part of the upcoming Del Mar Adventures in the future.
Costa Rica Cloud Forest: The First Del Mar Adventures Experience
Now, back home in Costa Rica, I hosted my first Del Mar Adventures Experience in the Cloud Forest of San Gerardo de Dota. What a blessing.
With this being the first wellness retreat we had hosted, I expected to feel nervous, but instead everything simply fell into place. We had fifteen of the amazing individuals join us for days of peace, laughter and pure magic in the Costa Rican jungle. This experience has a special focus on slow and intentional movement, specifically gyrokynesis. This movement method combines complete flow and connection with your breath. It emphasizes continuity in order to reach a place of balance, and aids in mobility, strength, balance and body awareness.
One of the most special aspects of this retreat is the complete farm-to-table meals, with nourishing ingredients that fueled our amazing adventures through the jungle. We plunged into the icy river, sharing a revitalizing mental and physical experience, then lay out in the warm grass sunbathing. We hosted peaceful bonfires at night full of laughter and warmth to end the night in the best way possible. The natural beauty and enjoyment this place offers is unbelievable. This gathering reaffirmed what I’ve always believed. When I follow my heart, work with love, and share meaningful experiences with you, everything aligns.
As I write this with a big smile, I want to share a glimpse of that unforgettable weekend. I also want to invite you to join us in the upcoming Del Mar Adventures experiences planned for 2026.
Spots are limited, so don’t wait. Take a look at what’s coming, and stay tuned for 2027. New destinations, more love, more adventure, and countless magical moments are on the horizon.
